Keep it Simple. Keep it Clean. Keep it Green.
Eco Citizen strives to offer high quality, fair trade, classic fashion design and construction to the eco-conscious consumer. Our mission is to support the planet and its people while encouraging and implementing fair trade practices, sweatshop-free merchandise, and organic fashion products. Eco Citizen promotes a lifestyle choice that goes beyond the traditional allure of fashion, by transcending the self through transparent business practices, while providing fashion-forward and classic clothing for the 21st century woman.
Eco Citizen is owned and operated by Joslin Van Arsdale and is an accumulation of working in the fashion, photography and art fields over the past 10 years. After graduating with her BA in photography, from University of Colorado, Boulder, post graduate studies brought her to London. While in London, she studied fashion design and illustration at Central St. Martins and interned for designer Zandra Rhodes. In 1998, she moved to New York, where she worked as a stylist for publications such as Hermes, Banana Republic and New York Times Magazine. A desire to learn French brought her to Paris where she worked for renowned trend forecaster and visionary Li Edelkoort, creating stories for In View and Trend Union. Joslin returned to London and obtained her MA in Textiles from Goldsmiths University. In 2003, Joslin moved to Santa Fe, NM, where she worked as a Gallery Director and independent curator for photo-eye Gallery promoting the work of emerging photographers. While volunteering for the Santa Fe Folk Art Market one summer, Joslin met a Brazilian lace maker who supported 26 indigenous villages with the sale of her lace at various markets. Her story inspired Joslin to return to fashion and after extensive research, she decided to move to San Francisco, a city that is at the center of the green movement. Eco Citizen was born from the simple desire to help people and contribute to the well-being of the world. “It feels good to know that the items I sell are not only well designed but also fair trade, organic and sustainable- to know this gives me a purpose.” Joslin Van Arsdale
